Students participate in compulsory core curricula which includes literacy and numeracy.
Available Certificate courses include:
Selected units within the Certificate I Vocational Pathways. In these units students complete hands on numeracy activities that will assist them in the working world, including measuring, weighing and building structures.
Selected units within the Certificate I Media & Design. These units provide the skills and knowledge for individuals to safely perform foundation digital literacy tasks using a personal computer and a range of software applications and digital devices
Certificate II in Creative Industries – In these units students develop creative and critical thinking skills through writing a script and rehearsing for a school theatrical production. Students construct set pieces, learn how to use a lighting desk and perform a theatre piece publically either as an actor or backstage crew member.
Certificate II in Horticulture – In these units students learn practical garden maintenance and Horticulture skills. Students complete activities including; safely operating line trimmers, motor mowers, planting, weeding and pruning.
Certificate II in Printing & Graphic Arts – These units focus on altering images digitally using photoshop programs. Students format documents, text and follow design briefs in order to fulfil mock customers’ design and printing requests. Students also design corporate logos while learning how to navigate InDesign and Illustrator programs.
Certificate II in Sport & Recreation – These units focus on conducting sport and fitness events, documenting fitness plans, developing meal plans and completing workplace health and safety audits.
Certificate II in Warehousing – Students complete these units as a part of a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship. Students participating in this unit are required to independently travel to Northpoint in Tullamarine twice a week, where they will learn how to safely load and unload boxes, dispatch stock and prepare workplace documents. As this is an apprenticeship, students will receive payment for their time.
Certificate II Food Handling Students complete these units as a part of a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship. Students participating in this unit learn about Hospitality working in a commercial kitchen. As this is an apprenticeship, students will receive payment for their time.
Hair and Beauty (selected units) – Students complete selected units of competency within the Certificate II in Salon Assistant certificate, including applying make-up, experimenting with colours and completing research assignments. These classes take place at Kangan TAFE, Richmond. Students will travel to Richmond with teacher supervision.
Students participate in a range of Volunteer work placements to attain experience in industry specific areas such as hospitality, animal studies, café operations, retail, warehousing and horticulture.
Structured workshops and electives supplement and enrich learning experiences, deliver content specific to work industries and provide practical insights into the world of work. Students gain industry specific knowledge and skills. These are conducted at a range of locations within the community or on the Koroit, PreCAL or VCAL campuses. These pre skills help in the preparation of making informed choices of industry specific pathways for future careers.
