Students begin the Victorian Pathways Certificate at year 10 level. This program is called Pathways. The Pathways program is offered to all year 10 students and is structured to support students to begin their Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) Unit 1 modules and work towards (VET) Victorian Education and training and (SBAT) School based apprenticeships and traineeships certificates. Pathways cultivates a stimulating and challenging learning environment, safe, supportive, and inclusive, successfully preparing students for post school options. In addition to the VPC, students participate in structured workplace learning (SWL) and Industry Specific workshops (ISW). The workshops supplement and enrich programs offered at school in preparation for making choices, creating industry specific pathways for future careers.

Certificate I in Hospitality introduces students to common hygiene and OHS protocols within the industry. Students prepare simple dishes and undertake stock rotation tasks. They explore customer service in restaurants along with effective communication and teamwork skills. Potential pathways: It is recommended that year 10 students interested in completing a Food Processing apprenticeship in year 11 or 12 undertake this subject.
Certificate I in Employment Pathways units primarily focus on achieving competency in a range of skills that are required in a wide variety of workplaces. Students will undertake practical experience in work related practices including engaging with customers, adhering to occupational health and safety guidelines and operating school market stalls on special occasions, such as Mothers’ Day. Potential pathways; Certificate II in Retail Studies, work experience.
Certificate II in Music is a two-year course that aims to develop students’ creative, IT, literacy and reading skills. Students do not require previous experience with instruments to enrol. There is a strong emphasis on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in this course. Students undertake eight units that relate to sound engineering, composition, performance, audio equipment set up and safety in the workplace. Students operate Ableton Live and an Ableton Push (professional grade recording software) and plan, promote and perform at events in real live music venues. They learn how to install and operate PA systems and undertake sound checks with a mixing desk. Potential pathway; Employment in venues/hospitality, audio equipment transport and set up, further study in sound engineering.
Certificate II and School Based Apprenticeship in Food Handling. Students complete one day a week working within the hospitality industry, and a second day completing written units of competency. Students identify and practice hygienic cooking and food storage standards and work in teams in a kitchen to complete common food preparation tasks. Meals are donated to the homeless and disadvantaged. Students are paid for their work in the kitchen. Potential pathways; Employment in hospitality, Certificate III in Hospitality.
Selected units within the Certificate II in Salon Assistance (Hair and Beauty) - Hair and Beauty takes place at Kangan TAFE in Richmond and delivers selected units from the Certificate II course in Salon Assistance. Students research and apply beauty industry information, learn to contribute to health and safety of self and others, communicate as part of a salon team and develop skills and knowledge to advise on beauty products and services. Students learn a range of skills within the beauty retail environment. Potential pathways; Fast tracked completion of the Certificate II in Salon Assistance, employment in cosmetics retail.
Certificate II in Horticulture - The Horticulture course exposes students to the working reality of the Horticulture sector, whilst undertaking selected units within the theoretical Certificate II in Horticulture in the classroom. Students carry out practical garden works at various off-site garden areas Projects can include carpentry and paving, landscape garden construction, soil preparation, planting, watering, and feeding, pruning, weeding and mowing. All tasks are carried out utilising appropriate tool and material usage adhering to OHS standards. Potential pathways; Certificate III in Horticulture, apprenticeship in the Horticulture Industry. Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation delivers several units within accredited Vocational Education and Training (VET) packages. Students are required to participate in written and verbal assessments that intend to develop their understanding of the fitness industry. Students are given the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required in the operation of sporting facilities, including conducting sport and recreation programs, meal planning and assisting in a fitness industry context. Potential pathways: Employment in sport and recreation-based retail, Certificate III in Fitness, Certificate III in Sport, and Recreation.
Certificate II and School Based Apprenticeship in Warehousing takes place at Northpoint in Tullamarine. Students attend Northpoint twice a week, where they undergo training and complete common duties within a warehouse, including sorting, quality control of fresh produce, packing, unpacking, and storing items, identifying workplace hazards, and completing checklists. Students are paid for their time working in a warehouse. Potential pathways; Certificate III in Warehouse Operations, employment in the warehousing industry.
Certificate II in Visual Arts units focus on researching influential and modern art and applying simple drawing, painting, printing, and pottery making techniques in one’s own practice. Students attend excursions to local galleries and identify their artistic preferences, then incorporate these influences into their own pieces and portfolios. Potential pathways; Certificate III in Visual Arts, work experience.
Structured workshops supplement and enrich learning experiences, deliver content specific to work industries and provide practical insights into the world of work. Students gain industry specific knowledge and skills. These are conducted at a range of locations within the community or on the Koroit, Narrun or VPC campuses. These pre skills help in the preparation of making informed choices of industry specific pathways for future careers.
