It has been a pleasure watching the students grow into mature and responsible young adults as the year is progressing. They are all working extremely hard to achieve their goals and to establish and maintain friendships.
Secondary Sub-School students are given the opportunity to participate in some new and innovative programs designed to develop independence and teamwork. These consisted of a girls’ fitness group where a select group of Secondary Girls are involved in fitness and healthy lifestyle activities including the ‘1000 Steps’ program, as well as being responsible for the development and implementation of fitness activities designed for their peers. We also have a boys’ “Chat Room”, run by the wellbeing team, giving the Secondary Boys the opportunity to discuss social and personal issues and to build self-esteem.
The use of the open spaces has led staff and students, throughout the section, to participate in projects in mixed groups. Students are encouraged to use their research skills using newly acquired laptops and iPads to present both visually and orally.
Throughout the year, students attend many exciting educational and fun excursions and incursions. Every student participates in an adapted Physical Education Program at Victoria University as well as visiting the Royal Melbourne Zoo, Scienceworks/Planetarium and Indoor trampolining at Bounce. All students participate in Yoga incursions as well as the Footy Day, Fun-Run, Cross Country, Athletics Carnival and Inter School Sport. We have also continued our ‘Sailability’program as well as our camping experiences, which include the Melbourne Discovery Camp and the Blackwood Super Ride camp.
At the end of each year, our year 10 students move on to our VCAL Campus at the Town Park. We celebrate their achievements throughout the year and wish them all the best for the future, whether it be in the world of work or further vocational training.
