VCAL Technology

 

Technology for Life (VCAL)

 

Technology for Life provides students with the knowledge and skills to use technology in everyday life. The curriculum covers technology used at home, in the community and in the workplace. Students access a range of technology that is of personal relevance and increases their independence. The safe use of technology is emphasised.

 

Computers for Learning (VCAL)

 

Computers for Learning provides students with the knowledge and skills to use personal computers and software as a tool for learning. The content of the course includes experiences in using computer equipment and the basic functions of simple operating systems. Using computers as a word processor to improve writing skills is major component of this course.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wood Technology

 

The students at Hume Valley School are taught Wood Technology and Safety, as well as the basic process (hammering, drilling) the students also have limited use of machine sanding and drilling devises to construct and model such items as pencil boxes pot plant holders, CD holders and a variety of children’s toys.

VICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF APPLIED LEARNING (VCAL)

 

The focal point for the curriculum of the Transition Program is VCAL. This is a practical hands on program that is based on specific learning outcomes within four strands of learning.

 

• Literacy & Numeracy Strand

 

• Industry Specific Skills Strand

 

• Work Related Skills Strand

 

• Personal Development Skills Strand

 

This study program suits the interest and learning needs of the students in building the skills necessary for life, further education and work.

 

Students will receive a VCAL Department of Education Training certificate which will be recognized for further tertiary study at TAFE colleges and a statement of results detailing the areas of study that have been completed.

 

VCAL AWARD

 

We wish to congratulate Bob Strauch (our VCAL co-ordinator) who has been awarded a VCAL Teacher Achievement Award for Program Development. The award recognizes the excellent quality of the VCAL program and his outstanding contribution to the implementation of our highly successful VCAL program for our Transition students.

 

Bob also needs to be commended for the support he has provided to other schools in the development of their programs.

 

The Arts Creative Options (VCAL)

 

Creative Options include experiences in Ceramics, Music and Performing Arts, Woodwork, Painting & Drawing and Craft.

This curriculum component provides students with the knowledge and skills to develop creative aspects to enhance their quality of life. Learning outcomes are centred on accessing information on a range of creative media choices giving consideration to interests, availability, cost, time and location. Skill development specific to the particular creative option is a focus as well as care of equipment and displaying an awareness of hazards.
